Hargeysa, Somaliland, October 23, 2010 (SL Times) — An event to honor the graduation of 14 nurses from Amoud University took place at Borama’s Rays hotel. During the event which was attended by students, faculty and government officials, the dean of the School of Medicine, Dr Saeed Walhad, gave a background briefing on the history of the school all the way to the present. He pointed out that the School of Medicine is composed of four departments and has more than three hundred students.

The head of the nursing school, Fadumo Abukar, also spoke on this occasion and stressed that nurses are so essential for the delivery of health care that physicians cannot do without them.

The Minister of Health, Dr Hussein Mohamed Mohamoud, congratulated Amoud University and the new graduates. He emphasized that the achievements of Amoud University was the result of the peace in Somaliland, and that the Borama conference played a crucial part in establishing the peace that the country is now enjoying.

The deputy minister of health and the deputy minister of education were also among the participants in this event.
